Over 38 years of experience as a trainer and gym owner working in every gym and fitness facility setting imaginable throughout Los Angeles County. I have also been retained for over 40 cases over the last 15 years. I have designed programs for thousands in individual and group settings teaching basic to advanced methods of exercise science and sports performance. Experienced teaching and coaching at the high school level and hands-on skills instruction for other trainers. Accomplished in all aspects of program design, performance assessment, wellness programming, performance nutrition, and weight management. Degreed and having earned multiple certifications, I continually keep up to date with knowledge about the health and fitness industry.
How is your background different?
My background is unique. I have formal education and advanced certifications in the field of exercise science coupled with extensive experience of hands-on instruction of clients, designing and building facilities and running the day-to-day operations of fitness facilities. I have extensively researched all of the applicable laws, standards and guidelines that apply in to the fitness industry. This experience is combined with several years of emergency medical care training as well as instructing others in emergency response First Aid, CPR & AED in the fitness setting. This provides me with a distinct perspective that will benefit your efforts.
Specific area of expertise included national industry standards associated with facility design and operation, personal training and emergency response. Specific standards application includes those of the ASTM and ANSI equipment design, testing and use, California mandated emergency preparedness standards including those set by the American Red Cross and American Heart Association.
Education and Training Background
B.A. degree in Physical Education with concentration on Physical Fitness and Exercise Science with a minor in Speech Communication from the University of Alaska.

Well versed in the ASTM and ANSI standards of equipment design, testing and required maintenance. Standards specific to required signage, flooring and equipment spacing, including ADA. Biomechanical analysis and reconstruction of injury related incidents.

Over 12 years of experience as an EMT and Red Cross First-Aid / CPR / AED instructor. I have evaluated numerous cases and written declarations confirming or arguing against the cause / mechanism of injury. Each argument cites state laws specific to duty of care, emergency plan requirements and the use of AEDs.

A well written persuasive declaration is key is supporting or defeating a motion for summary judgement. I will expound from the view of a fitness industry expert as well as a consumer to present a clear and concise argument. All arguments are supported by well documented industry resources in addition to my extensive experience as a fitness professional and consumer of services.

If the case progresses to the point of depositions, an expert who knows the broad accepted fitness industry practices is just part of the picture. In most cases details surrounding the incident play a larger role in determining the outcome of a case. Do you have a preference to represent plaintiff or defendant?
I have no bias towards plaintiff of defendant cases. I will, without prejudice evaluate each case on it's merits and advise counsel whether or not I believe I can be of service representing them in the capacity as an expert witness.
Are you willing to travel?
Given my job flexibility, I am able to travel for 2-3 days at a time. I have done so to conduct site investigations and depositions.
